cocktails.jpgWe’re almost half way through term now, and what better way to celebrate on a Friday night than with a drink at one of Oxford’s finest cocktail bars, right in the centre of town, and with half-price cocktails to boot? If you can’t make the pub meet on Thursday night (or even if you can!), then this will be a good opportunity to meet the committee and others involved in OUJS for an informal drink, possibly practice your English/Japanese and generally take a break from work. Pop in anytime, talk to many people, get some drinks and have a good time!!!

Where: The Grand Cafe, High Street
When: Friday 4th Week (7th Nov), 7pm onwards

yattenai.jpgJoin us this coming Wednesday for our first film night of the term. We'll be kicking things off with the film 'それでもボクはやってない' or 'I Just Didn't Do it' which is a harrowing exposition of the Japanese legal system. Based on a true story, when a young man is falsely accused of molesting a high-school girl on a train, he is arrested, charged and put through endless court sessions all the while insisting that he is innocent. This is a fascinating film which is definitely worth a watch. The film will be in Japanese with English subtitles.

Where: Oriel College (Harris Lecture Theatre)
When: Wednesday 4th Week (5th Nov), 8pm
Price: FREE

Our weekly FREE language classes start this Thursday (23rd October) so if you'd like to start the term with something new, and make a fresh start to the new academic year by learning some Japanese, pop along to the Oriental Institute at 6pm. If you're not already a member, there will be an opportunity to join before your first class, but please come at 5:45pm if this is the case so that we can get things started as soon as possible.

Also this Thursday is the first weekly OUJS pub meet. Come down to the Lamb & Flag pub on St. Giles from 7:15pm and enjoy a drink with the OUJS committee, or practice your Japanese/English in a more informal setting.

Welcome back for another Michaelmas term. For those of you returning, OUJS hopes you had a restful summer break and are looking forward to the term ahead, and if you've just arrived – an extra special welcome! We have some exciting plans for the term ahead, but to start why not celebrate the beginning of the new term in style by popping along to the annual Japan Society Freshers' Drinks on Friday of 1st week:

What: OUJS Freshers' Drinks
Where: Oriel College
When: Friday 1st Week (11 Oct), 7.30pm onwards

If you're new to OUJS, it'll be a good opportunity to find out a little more about what we do over a FREE glass of wine/bottle of beer, or two, or three... and sign up to our weekly language classes... otherwise just come along for a quick drink and a chat.

Hope to see many of you there!
